Fourth episode of the Artisan Series has photographer Stefan Dinu as main character. Stefan used to be a lawyer and a liquidator, before starting Allkimik, an analog photo studio in a loft, downtown Bucharest.
Stefan does wet plate collodion, a photo technique more than 150 years old. Each image he makes is unique and has little to do with how we do photography today.
Artisan is a series of mini documentary films about craft and about the people who choose to become artisans in an increasingly technological world. Artisan is an original project by TheCell, created from the belief that no matter how technology makes our lifes easier, things created by hand have their own soul and story and they enclose a piece of the crafter’s personality. Buyings such products defines us as humans.
Artisan aims to prove the need to see, feel and create products made by hand is not a thing of the past, but something which brings meaning into our lives, even today. It’s a part of the legacy we inherited from previous generations, which we will pass on. Because without craft, we become mere machine operators. The objective of this series is to promote people who make things of value, to encourage a different kind of lifestyle, and to inspire those who may not have had the courage to create yet.
